God is Eternal
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev. 1:8)
Picking up from our last discussion, the last will be first and the first will be last. You’ve heard this teaching before, but let’s look into what it means. First of course, Jesus taught this to show us that our position in this world means nothing and that we should serve others in love. But there is more…
God is outside of time. He is not constricted to it the way we are. He created it. For us time is so important. Every day, we’re one day closer to death.
For God, time is simply a tool that he uses for His purposes. His major purpose on this earth is to grow Man into His likeness so that He has sons that He can share His life with and through whom He can let all of His Creation come to know His glory. Time is a medium through which He is bringing this about.
We are constrained by time and so our natural outlook is through the lens of time. In our minds, we glorify the time of Jesus and his disciples as the pinnacle of all history, but the reality is there’s a progression that God is working out in time and a time greater than that of Jesus’ is coming. His time was essential because all things were created through Him and for Him and His is the Name above all other names. However, His life was meant to usher in a Kingdom of priests and kings who fulfilled the purpose of God in Man. Therefore, the last who are in Him will be greater than the first who were in Him.
God’s primary purpose of creation is to have His sons. They would be proved in justice and righteousness, worthy of His Name, to be endowed with glory and honor, thus to share His Kingdom as heirs and reign with as kings, with all that He created and will create. More than that, they would share His nature and desire, become the recipient and giver of His love and affection, enjoy His love and wisdom, and thus would be able offer them to those are to learn of Him. All creation will be judged by the sons of God and will learn of the Creator from them.
To understand this End, we will have to turn to the Beginning. More about this in the next post.
