All World Systems End
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.” (Luke 21:25)
In the grand scheme of things, nations come and go. They serve the purpose for which they existed and then they either fade or rapidly change to something new. However, a nation does not need to end in order to take up a profoundly different place in the world.
It’s hard for us to imagine our own nation taking up a much less important place in the world for two reasons:
- We’re patriotic. Most of us love our country and are fiercely proud of being Americans. Of course we know Biblically that we should count our citizenship as being of Heaven and not of this world. America has very often stood for God in the past and so there is much to be proud of. And yet, we must always hold ourselves separate from the machinations of worldly systems and Men and be focused on the Kingdom first.
- A US dominated world is the only system any of us have ever known. You have to be both very old and very aware of international finance to have the slightest memory of any other world. And even if you do, the world then was not nearly as economically intertwined and connected as it is today. The 20th Century saw the US rise up and replace Britain as the world’s most powerful superpower. This is specifically seen in the Dollar’s place as the world reserve currency which is an enormous place of financial power.
But even though these two factors keep most of us from even being able to imagine a world which is not dominated by the US, this too will end. Every other world superpower has seen its day come to an end. Every fiat currency in the history of the world eventually disappeared because of the actions of its government. This happens every single time with the governments of Men.
Of course, these changes happen so infrequently that we should not fly off the handle claiming that they will happen soon just because we say so. A world system such as the Dollar as World Reserve Currency does not easily change and so there must be compelling reason to believe that it will change.
We’ve spent some time looking at some potential reasons why this could happen and you’ll have to decide how this information influences your personal allocation away from the Dollar.
In what ways do the two reasons mentioned above affect your thinking and your feelings?
